I think you may be confusing “writing advice” with “how to make a living by publishing your book” advice. Over at http://journal.neilgaiman.com/ you have 12 years and well over 2 million words of advice and explanation on how publishing works and the rest of it. Start at the beginning, in February 2001, which is all about the process of copy-editing, marketing and publishing AMERICAN GODS. I suspect you’ll find what you’re looking for in that two million words.
But even so, if I had to distill everything I know down to one word, that word would still be write.
